St. James' School S.T.E.M. Fair
NEW: QR CODES FOR PROJECTS
This year all participants must include some form of Digital Presentation with their poster. This could be a website, video, a slideshow, etc. The presentation must be linked to a QR code which must be placed in the upper right hand corner of your poster so everyone at the fair can scan the QR codes to get more information about your project on their phones or tablets!
Register online to participate.
Students wishing to display a project at the fair must register online in advance. A presentation board will be delivered to your classroom once you have registered online.
4TH AND 6TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FAIR!
Projects should be student driven.
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.
Working with someone else.
You may work on your project independently, or you may optionally work with a partner who is also a St. James' student, for example, a classmate or a sibling.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own try the Science Buddies website (www.sciencebuddies.org) to get some ideas.
Project Categories
Student projects must fall into one of the following five categories: Exhibit of Wonder, Controlled Experiment, Working Model/Demonstration or Reverse Engineering. For more information about each category please contact Mr. Chitjian at mchitjian@sjsla.org
Judging and awards.
Our science fair is non-competitive, as our goal is simply to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for science. Each participant will display their project to teachers, classmates, and parents during the evening of Fair. Participation in the Science Fair is mandatory for fourth and sixth graders, and each 4th and 6th grade student will receive a grade.
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the science fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. We especially need help with set up and break down, so if think you can spare an hour or two, we would love your help. Please contact Mr. Chitjian at mchitjian@sjsla.org and sign up now!
